But there are no panaceas or simple solutions. Nonetheless, this should not be taken as an excuse for inaction. Still, before we fast-track to the legislative path, we need to recognize that a portfolio of policies will have to be deployed. Some of these policies can reap immediate benefits through early implementation while others will require thoughtful, methodical market design and economic study. And whatever policies the United States chooses, they must be developed in a global context. All countries emit greenhouse gases, and all countries will be impacted by climate change. In the early benefits category, curtailing world deforestation, especially tropical deforestation, should be on the top of the climate policy list. Forest destruction is responsible for 20 percent of global carbon emissions each year.

Further Reflections on the MacBook Air
Apple didn't make it easy to devise a wireless alternative. The Air lacks the MacBook Pro's Express Card slot, so that option is out. AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon all offer USB modems for their wireless data services, but I have yet to find one that fits in the Air's very cramped USB port without use of an extension cord, which makes for a very clumsy arrangement, especially when you want to connect on the fly. If there were one thing I could change on the Air, this would be it. As it stands, the lack of a wireless broadband option is probably a dealbreaker for me. In and of itself, the lack of a built-in CD/DVD drive isn't much of a drawback. You can always use an external drive. I left the Apple external Superdrive (which, incidentally works only with the Air because of its high power draw) on my desk, but used the ThinkPad's clunkier read-only drive for movies on the plane without trouble.

Britney Spears and her paparazzi man-candy Adnan Ghalib have been embarking on daily shopping sprees over the past week. One stop was the Betsey Johnson store in Sherman Oaks where Britney apparently came out of a dressing room buck-ass naked, according to Life & Style: "I was blown away. Britney's private parts were right in front of me!" a store employee tells Life & Style.
"I grabbed a dress to cover her and she screamed, 'Get away from me! Don't you f------ come near me!' says the employee.
"Then she disappeared in the dressing room with Adnan for 45 minutes. They were making weird noises. It was disgusting." When Britney and Adnan finally came out, what followed is probably the most accurate description of how I imagine Britney talking: "I couldn't understand a word she was saying.
