5 More Unloved Growth Stocks

At first, I was tempted to go with teen retailer Abercrombie & Fitch for its reasonable valuation -- as expressed in a 0.98 PEG ratio -- and because peers such as Guess? (NYSE: GES) have been vastly oversold.

Come on, IsilonBut today I'm willing to take another whack at Isilon Systems, which makes storage systems for non-transactional data such as audio, video, and photos.

That's not an easy position to take. Deep pessimism exists as to whether this upstart can succeed against the likes of Hewlett-Packard (NYSE: HPQ) and Hitachi. CAPS investor kaputnikov put it this way in October:

Isilon's product doesn't target the vital part of enterprises (ERP/database, etc.) where price is secondary. Instead, Isilon targets the high-capacity areas, which [are] price-sensitive -- and they target companies (media) which have huge capacity needs -- but [which are] never willing to pay a lot ...

Clay could one day rise above cosmetic use to take its place alongside ...

Clay is most commonly associated with the sublime experience of the European spa where visitors have been masked, soaked and basted with this touted curative since the Romans ruled. However, today scientists think that smectite clay could one day rise above cosmetic use to take its place comfortably with antibacterial behemoths like penicillin. People are interested in natural cures and I think that there is a lot of nature that we dont understand yet, ASU geochemist Lynda Williams says. What if we discover a mechanism for controlling microbes that had never been discovered before? It is these avenues, at the boundaries of scientific discovery, at the edges of my field and knowledge (and Shelleys), where such discoveries are made. .

Red Blood Cell Nuclei Insight Reported

U.S. researchers have completed the first mechanistic study of how a red blood cell loses its nucleus, shedding light on mammalian evolution.

Unlike the rest of the human body's cells, red blood cells lack nuclei and scientists have struggled to understand the mechanism by which maturing red blood cells eject their nuclei. Now, researchers led by Harvey Lodish at the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research have modeled the complete process in vitro in mice.

She can spin a yarn

My claim to fame was I had milk-chocolate rabbits," she says. There was nowhere in Canada to get the angora processed; she had to send it to Ohio.

Ruiter became a successful full-time craftsperson, selling silk and angora scarves and garments under the label Yarnspinners. But she developed carpal tunnel syndrome from the repetitive strain of operating her various looms and harvesting the rabbits' wool. After twice having surgery on both wrists, she knew her doctor was right that her work life had to change.

She got rid of the rabbits. In 1994, she and Michelle borrowed money from Paul, invested in machinery and started Rovings in an Oakbank strip mall. At that point, they didn't buy a spinning machine. They took out a full-page ad in a spinning magazine, offering to process raw animal fleece into rovings.
